Disk Metrics and S.M.A.R.T. Data
Disk Status collects detailed metrics from your disks, including S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) data.
What is S.M.A.R.T.?
S.M.A.R.T. is a monitoring system built into most modern storage devices. It tracks various attributes that can indicate potential failures before they occur.
Viewing Metrics
From any disk detail page, you can see:
Live Metrics
The most recent metric snapshot showing current values for monitored attributes.
Recent Metrics
A table of the last 25 metric readings, showing how values have changed over time.
Historical Metrics
Click View All Metrics to see paginated historical data for the disk.
Common S.M.A.R.T. Attributes
Different disk types report different attributes. Common ones include:
For HDDs:
- Reallocated Sector Count
- Spin Retry Count
- Current Pending Sector Count
- Uncorrectable Sector Count
- Power-On Hours
- Temperature
For SSDs:
- Wear Levelling Count
- Available Reserved Space
- Media Wearout Indicator
- Total LBAs Written
- Temperature
Interpreting Metrics
- Temperature: Higher temperatures can reduce disk lifespan
- Reallocated Sectors: Increasing counts may indicate failing disk areas
- Power-On Hours: Shows total operational time
- Error Counts: Should remain at zero or very low values
